Since my PC somewhat recently crashed and burned, I have started planning its revival. My most recent PC died. The power supply went haywire (I overworked it by adding a little more than it was rated at, oops!) and completely fried every piece of hardware in the case. This of course includes my hard drives. A major setback, and disappointing to see all my data be irreparably lost. And before anyone asks; No, I did not lose any project data, because I backed it up. Most of the parts have arrived, and I'm only really waiting on two more things now.

This build follows my usual pattern of; full build meant to last years, then a small upgrade or addition. The last one was an upgrade. A fairly substantial one but still an upgrade. This one is meant to last me for years to come.

Props to Newegg with the best deals on the net for hardware, and to UPS with their teleport shipping. All but the case arrived in one day.

Here is the break down;

LIAN LI Case
Motherboard
Intel Core i7-930 2.8GHz
CPU Cooler
Radeon HD 5870
RAM 6GB (3 x 2GB) Triple Channel
2TB HDD
Power Supply

And a throw-in cause my DVD burner got fried;
CD/DVD Burner

If it were me I'd get an Phenom II X4 instead of a Core i7, and a 5770 instead of a 5870, but that's probably because I'm a poor college student.

That heatsink is a BEAST.

Normally, though, I'm all about Thermaltake for cases and cooling. I installed a similar sized heatsink in a standard case, and the damn lid wouldn't fit. Popped that sucker in a Thermaltake, and I had plenty of room and plenty of circulation.

This thing steamrolled SF4. All max settings, 1080p, and the ink effect shader. Solid 60 frames per second. The benchmark got up to about 130fps.
