This was something Marc and I discussed yesterday. He had one idea, I had another. Therefore, I decided to cast a vote for all of the members that are looking into this game. We want you to vote on the stage select style YOU want in the game.

Now, as I've already mentioned, there is only 3 Robot Masters in this game. Which limits the choices to 2 styles at the most.

  • Style 1 (Cleveland Rock's/Zantetsu's Idea)- This style is more in tune with the NES titles, with Mega Man's mugshot in the center.
  • Style 2 (Strider's Idea)- This style is in the same style as Mega Man (1). The player presses Left or Right to cycle through the mugshots clockwise or counter clockwise. Mega Man's mugshot is visible with this style, and is replaced by Wily's mugshot when the 3 masters are destroyed. This is the style that the original game used.
  • Style 3 (Marc's Idea)- Same concept, except the mugshots are arranged horizontally. This leaves room for additional information to be displayed on the screen. Which could include a preview of the stage, or information about the Master currently highlighted (Ala Mega Man 6).

Download the attached mini-app and give them both a try. Cast your vote as to which style YOU want in Mega Man PC.

EDIT: Poll edited for an additional style. Polls reset.

I dont believe there are enough portraits to try and circle Megaman's into it. Not that letting the public decide was ever a good idea anyway for most everything. This is proven by just about every fan game out there. Remember, you and the team are the designers. Don't waste your position. Put your designer skill into action.

In addition I think 3 makes the most sense stylistically, and because of all the options that have been discussed need a place to be selected. It is really hard to see that if you leave it blank, since people cannot visualize it. And you shouldn't just fill it in with your planned features either, since they are still under wraps I assume. This poll was a bad idea any way you look at it.

I never played this game, but my vote goes to style 2, since it was the one used in the original, this is a remake after all

@Marc: You've always been a fan of "newer, better, bigger" but remember that this is a remake

Style 2, but less vertical spread and more horizontal spread.

Style 2, only change Mega Man to Dr. Wily I think. Style 2 reminds me of Mega Man 7's initial layout for the first four masters.

Style 2, and make a 5th Wily stage appear in the center when it's time.

Hrrrm, changed my vote. The more I think about it.. Style 1 may be more megaman-ish, but Style 2 just looks better..

and what Sub is saying makes me think it'd be an awesome idea.

To be honest, I was thinking of sticking with Style 2 for Classic mode (Nice idea for bringing the middle mugshots closer together vertically, Alex). In the original, Wily's fortress starts immediately once the last Robot Master is destroyed.

Modern Mode, however, I believe we may use Marc's style idea. As I had mentioned, this style will also display stats of the RM and a small preview window for the stage.

The game itself will utilize an autosave feature similar to Mega Man Powered Up. Which, unless you turn it off to save manually, automatically saves game data once a stage has been lost/completed. In Modern Mode, the player will have to select Wily's mugshot to proceed, as the stages are revisitable to find the extra goodies.

Have you considered a World5-esque approach with larger mugshots and some sort of location map?
