I notice most people don't use the attachments feature. Instead they upload to some other external hosting service, such as ImageShack. I'm curious as to why.

I don't want it attached, I want it in the post. So I use photobucket.

It's more of a habit for me. On the forums I work on and the ones I used to run a while back we disabled it due to bandwith and security flaws(PHPBB sucks in that way). So I'm used to hosting it externally.
Sides when you do that you don't have to do something silly as put a . if you just want an image in your post.

what he said... Yeah, so I guess the matter is pretty much settled. No need for me to post... I use external hosts because if I'm going to post something here, I'm most likely going to post it somewhere else, also.

We have screwed up politics, and people killing people because one of them said something or other.
How's that for human wasteland?
Also, yes. There's like tons of things we could say about americans.
I mean, sure, if there's ANY rancid, disgusting or just plain weird thing you can think of, it's done in japan.
But for each and every one of those, there's a fan out there ready to post it on 4Chan. Which I believe is american.

The second to most recent time I tried to attach something, the operation kept timing out and turning me to a 40x message. Though that martial arts pic worked fine. It might have been the size of my desktop image that was killing it.
I also would feel kinda bad about stealing your bandwith/file stoarage to no good purpose, but I'm guessing you'll tell me you have plenty.

For the entire month of March the site in total used 2% of our bandwidth.

same. it's way faster than uploading it to imageshack or some other crappy server that goes down all the time, then direct linking it, and finally posting, only to have it removed few days later because the owners of the server are pricks.

Don't really post that many images. If it's MMPC related I'll just upload it to the DS.com server and link it there. But I have no issues using attachments.

Well, for the record fellas, I'd appriciate it if you could use the upload feature as much as possible, sometimes the web filter will block out some hosts (like Flickr and Photobucket), and all I see of you witty posts is a red x. But that's just me.

I keep my images on my own site, it's the easiest for me, and allows me to post the same thing on a different forum.
I doubt you'd get a Red X from one of my pics.

You'd be surprised, especially when dealing with cooperate or government firewalls.

Actually, the filter blocked the pic you posted in the random pics thread. It's not the hosts, it's my server-side web filter.

Ah, but that's because THAT certain picture was NOT uploading to my own host.
I actually just copied the image URL from where I found it, and used it. I think it's imageshack.
